PIC USB RGB LED Notifier Part 0 update2
I received some RGB Leds yesterday which is ordered via ebay, $6.04 for 20pcs. I connect one led with my arduino board and had some fun .
here is the video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hnSBgtLXRI)
I had to apply lump of hot glue and trim it on the clear LED to better color mixing of R,G,B lights.
Anxious to hook up the LEDs with the PIC .Get ready for the magic!

PIC USB RGB LED Notifier Part 0
following RGB LED notifier make me to do little experiment with pic18f2455.
http://eeegadgets.blogspot.com/2009/07/usb-mail-notifier-final-revision.html
based on this tutorial (http://pe.ece.olin.edu/ece/handouts/050201_lab1.pdf) i make
my first steps to making usb device out pic18f2455.following is the schematic i setup on the breadboard.
olin college tutorial comes with source coded for both pc/pic. you can find them here.i come up
with mplab project plus visual c++ program to control the led.
drop me a mail to dilan2005atgmaildotcom)
hope to continue the story after i received my RGB LEDs.

solar charger teardown
i bought above solar charger via ebay. my curiosity lead me to tear down the solar charger. unfortunately i didn't have a camera at the time of tear down but i was able to trace down the wiring of the components inside the solar cell charger.
The functionality of the charger as follows.the solar cell charger contains a internal rechargeable battery(unbranded Li-ion with protector circuit). this battery can be charge via solar power or usb hook to a pc. this internal battery can be used to charger your mp3/mp4 player or the cell phone.
the outer case made with metal alloy.By unscrewing two screws at the one end enable to slide the solar cell plus the electronics
out of the case.
above is rough sketch of the schematic.
the open voltage of solar cell measures maximum of 5.8v @ bright sun light .the solar cell is a good candidate for outdoor self powered device such as remote weather station , water tank level monitoring or small power sensor network nodes.
As on the schematic manufactures came with a clever trick to on/off the boost converter (U1) when external jack is plug to the socket.

some interesting quotes
following are some interesting quotes found from a user called "Sapieha" from parallax forum.
Nothing is impossible, there are only different degrees of difficulty.
-
For every stupid question there is at least one intelligent answer.
-
Don't guess - ask instead.
-
If you don't ask you won't know.
-
If your gonna construct something, make it as simple as possible yet as versatile as possible.

playing AMT MP3
bought cheap Chinese mp3 player , which is a clone of ipod shuffle 2nd gen from ebay.( not a 1:1 clone shuffling feature is missing / there is 1:1 ipod shuffle clone in ebay) .
ebay tag is 2GB MP3 MP4 Player Mini Clip Metal Case
it cost me 6GBP .
i found following finding were useful.
- AMT_MP3 can be only formatted in FAT format (not FAT32)
- to copy mp3 file ,had to use windows media player copy device feature (simple drag and drop mp3 files through windows explorer wont work.. it gives some copy errors)
